Popular Double Countertop Water Filters & Replacement Cartridges
A few years ago trade magazines were filled with ads for double countertop filters. As their expected popularity faded, vendors quickly lost interest. Popular or not, they still have advantages and offer lots of filtration for the money, so we continue to offer ours although it's true they aren't our bestseller.
Other Countertop Filters We Sell:
The advantage of the double over the single countertop is obviously that you get double filtration capacity. In addition, you get more variety. For example, with two vessels rather than one, you can have the advantage of a lead removal cartridge in company with a high-capacity chemical cartridge for a very effective all-around water treatment system. That is, in fact, what we've done with our standard model double countertop which uses two MatriKX carbon block filters. Or, you can put our CFX taste/odor/fluoride cartridge with a MatriKX PB-1 lead removal cartridge and have a high capacity chemical filter that removes lead, fluoride, and cysts like cryptosporidium and giardia. Or you can get our slimline model with a high capacity lead removal carbon block plus a Doulton Super Sterasyl cartridge that removes all bacteria and cysts and adds a second bed of chemical-removing carbon. There's a lot of variety possible.
The big disadvantage of double countertops is that they take up a lot of counter space. Nothing's perfect.
We like them and plan to keep offering them. Our double countertops are all standard stuff. Actually, a double is two of our Model 77 countertops hooked together so that water passes through one then through the other. The same cartridges fit the doubles that work in all our Black & White series undersink, countertop, and reverse osmosis units.
We make only two double countertop styles—standard white and candle-size white. As with Model 77 single countertops, we offer a choice of spout styles. The unit in the picture at right has the standard, "gooseneck" spout. You can take a look at the alternate "long reach" spout on the Model 77 page.
As with Model 77, you can choose any cartridges you want from the 9.75 X 2.5 or candle sizes in our cartridge menu. If you don't specify, you'll get what we think is the best all-around cartridge choice: the MatriKX PB-1 lead-and-cyst-removal extruded carbon block followed by the MatriKX nominal 1 micron extruded block (KX-1) which is an exceptional chlorine and chemical filter and a great taste/odor enhancer. A popular substitute for those who want fluoride removal is the PW-AAL (activated alumina) cartridge. It goes well with either the PB-1 or the KX-1.
The standard cartridges for the candle-size double countertop are also PB-1 and KX-1. At this time, no fluoride option is available for candle-size units.
